About

Welcome to the Choi Tae Kwon Do Austin Web site. We hope you find this information useful. Please feel free to contact us with any questions.

Choi Tae Kwon Do Austin is a small non-commercial school with larger associations around the country. We are part of the larger D’Amico community of clubs.

We focus on developing relationships to last a life-time. Your instructor doesn’t change from class to class, which means you get the consistent attention you need to improve at every stage of your development.

All classes are free. We don’t charge money or do any of this for profit. We teach because we want to share the art with others. You are welcome to come try with us at any class to see if this is a place where you can grow.

History

Our club was founded in May of 2006 by Greg Muthler. There were about a dozen founding members, most of whom you’ll still see today exercising and training in the club. The club has since grown to around two dozen members. They range in rank from white up to red belt.

The initial work-outs were held outside at a park. Once it became too warm to train outside, the club moved indoors to the athletic facility in the Riata apartment complex. Classes are still held at Riata.

For the first couple years, instructor Darin Smith, who previously led the TKD at UIUC club, ran a high belt section of the club in Austin. He has since moved on to found his own club in Seattle, WA.

Greg Muthler is a second degree black belt. His instructor, Carmen Alonso, now teaches in Madison, WI. Her instructor, Master D’Amico, teaches in New Bedford, MA, and heads up the community of schools. Ranks of black belt and beyond are tested for under Master D’Amico in New Bedford.

Our club continues to grow and improve. Come be a part of our group.
